And Yet Something Shines, Something Sings in That Silence

Amber Priestley

And Yet Something Shines, Something Sings in That Silence a été jouée à Birmingham, Huddersfield et Montréal…

I was influenced by my time playing with the University of York Gamelan group, and the tune and structure of this piece exhibit this. All performers of the quartet read from the score, which is only two pages of music—but as in my other open-form pieces, it can be performed in a variety of ways.

As a participant of Composer’s Kitchen 2013, I had the unparalleled luxury of working with the Bozzini Quartet in Canada for 12 days; during that time, we were able to establish a wonderful collaborative relationship which resulted in their constantly-varied and always imaginative interpretation of my score.
