Air Mass

Marilou Buron

Air Mass has been performed in Montréal…

Amas d’air (Air Mass) sets to music the transformations related to the states of air and water. For some time, I have been interested in ways to musicalize an idea through musical anaphones. My piece spreads out in four movements based on floating. The first movement Nuages et orages (Clouds and Thunderstorms) explores a classical and rich sound, interwoven with floating and free passages. The second movement Pluie (Rain) focuses on rhythm and incorporates jazz melodies and rhythms. The third movement Condensation represents an unstable fog composed of quarter tones, and oscillating between swinging and even eighth notes. The last movement Évaporation (Evaporation) has a mysterious, floating and misty character. A water particle can go through a whole cycle of transformation, but will always retain its properties. Let yourself be transported like a drop of water through this auditory journey!
